OpenSolaris bible / Nicholas A. Solter, Wiley, 2009

Here is a book to help you configure a Solaris server, written by the author of an excellent C++ book that is also in the OPL. If you want a Solaris job, you will get useful experience by running OpenSolaris at home. You may find this book considerably more readable than Sun’s Solaris manuals. 950 pages.

If you want a versatile home *nix, you would probably prefer Ubuntu or SUSE Linux. But if you want a solid multiprocessor server that does not chase the bleeding edge, then OpenSolaris or FreeBSD is a good choice.
